QTC Advanced Traffic Controller Introduction

QTC has been involved with the Roads and Traffic Authority of New South Wales, Australia in the development of the new Traffic Controller Specification TSC/4 since its inception. This specification establishes the requirements for equipment capable of supporting in the SCATS2 initiative. During this specification development QTC has also been developing the QTC Advanced Traffic Controller, designed to comply with the specification and incorporating up to date technologies and methods.

The Controller provides a fully scalable architecture allowing system configurations of up to 32 signal groups and 32 vehicle detectors to be deployed.

It is fully compliant with the current SCATS technology and has been specifically designed to provide the features required of the upcoming SCATS2 technology including the compatibility of LED traffic signals.

The communications sub-system is capable of many modes of operation, from the existing 300 baud modem links, through direct RS232 and fully automated dial-up to full network connectivity. The QTC Advanced Traffic Controller has been designed in a highly modular fashion to allow for future growth in terms of both infrastructure and technology. The flexibility of the design ensures that infrastructure expenditure is protected well into the future.

HHT Command

There are no keyboard commands or special codes to remember. The commands are structured into a menu system from which the user makes a selection by entry of numeric keys. In most cases entry of two keys is sufficient to select the desired command.

Controller Personality

Configuration Data (Personality Data) for controller will be prepared on a PC-based Controller Configuration Equipment. All Personality data will be stored in the Personality Flash EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory). A control program will be provided in the Controller Configurator for loading the personality data to the EEPROM. No separate memory programmer or eraser will be required.

The Configurator simplifies the process of generating Configuration data and the loading of the data into EEPROMs. The function can be performed by non-technical staff.

NGEN a new generation of SCATS controller configuration software, a Windows GUI type software package can be provided for the easy generation of configuration data.

As a safety measure, data in the Personality Flash EEPROM must correspond to the hardware programmed intersection number and revision level in the Site Identification Encoder in the controller housing for the controller to start operation when mains power is applied.
